THE SUNSHINE PLAY
by Peca Stefan - directed by Lydia Ziemke
One hot summer night, up on a Bucharest rooftop, DAN, a Romanian man who has just returned from Colombia after a failed marriage and an arrest, regains hope and decides to start over in his native country - with the unexpected help of an odd couple of ex-future fiancees: the undecided IZA, a Romanian woman, and impulsive TRIFOR, a Bulgarian man. Together they plan a trip to the seaside, to his hometown where he will meet his mother after many years of separation. Facing failure, an everchanging future, fears and hopes in the cool morning sunshine brings a bittersweet, sappy and quite unexpected resolution to their plan.
