BLACK-EYED SUSANNA
produced by Eddie Whitehurst · Set by Johanna Bassetti & Amy Stebbins · Lights by Francesca Ciardi · Costumes by Katherine O´Brien · Dramaturgy by Tihana Romanic
In the wedding alcove of a Catholic church, Lillian Aster, a polished academic in her early thirties, is preparing for the most important day of her life. Everything is ready: the dress, the flowers, the groom. Everything, that is, except her mother, Elaine, who will fight to the death to prevent a daughter from repeating her own mistakes.
Playwright Daniel R. Pecci bestows upon his characters a Pinter-esque orgy of language and sound which transports the audience from the naturalistic to the surreal at the drop of a lily. A black comedy about faith, marriage, and disillusionment, Black-Eyed Susanna depicts the psychological turmoil of two women still reeling from the pangs of love.
