The Lab
The ETB is happy to announce the reactivation of The LAB for Playwrights for 2012. The LAB under the curatorship of Tom Strauss is soliciting submissions from playwrights who wish to be considered for interpretive / staged readings of their work by professional actors at the ETB Studio Theater beginning in March.
Expressions of interest in submitting a play should first provide a summary of your work and a brief outline of the play and prior experience as a playwright plus any questions you may have at

Founded in 2003, The Lab is an ETB program intended to support the work of Berlin-based playwrights who write in English. We offer a platform for emerging, as well as established writers who are looking for one-on-one and audience feedback on recently finished plays, including one act, children's or radio plays.
The LAB embraces any kind of structure, theme or length of plays, and encourages playwrights to enter their work while they are still in the process of revising it. Upon selection, our staged or interpretive readings are intended to help our featured writers in improving their plays depending on their own issues or challenges with their texts.
LAB playwrights should feel invited to ask a lot of questions in the rehearsal process and be prepared to answer a lot in return. At the staged readings, our audience has proven to be supportive and inquisitive so far, nourished by a respectful atmosphere between LAB representatives, our playwrights and an always motivated cast of professional actors.
It is our primary aim is to help local artists create quality work for the stage despite being outside an English-speaking country. There is no deadline for Lab submissions. Any playwright with a serious project is welcome year-round, regardless of nationality, or native language, including artists who may not write in English themselves but who wish to present an already existing translated version of their work.
